JOINING SENIORS & YOUTH (JSAY)

The Joining Seniors and Youth (JSAY) Program is an intergenerational program where youth in grades K-12, residing in Macomb or Wayne County, join with seniors in the community to bridge generations through engagement. Our goal is to build stronger and long-lasting intergenerational relationships in the community continuously.

The JSAY Program promotes three core focus areas: 1) learning; 2) caring; and 3) wellness.  We strive continuously to increase the mental and physical well-being of seniors in the community, create increased literacy levels in youth through short story readings, create a safe space where youth can talk and find their similarities with seniors, and learn ways to be healthier (physically and mentally).

Seniors and youth share experiences in which they’ve had over time and seniors will share wisdom that will be beneficial for youth in their development as the next generation of leaders in the community. High School youth assist with weekly check-ins to keep seniors engaged and in great spirits. Seniors also engage in wellness activities throughout the month with wellness volunteers and program staff.
